John entered his first bodybuilding contest in 1976, and went on to gain IFBB pro status a few years later.As an IFBB pro he came 2nd in his pro debut to none other then Lee Haney, and went onto compete on the Olympia stage and around the world. To this day, John Terilli remains one of the few bodybuilders, and the only Australian to have won both the amateur and professional NABBA Universe titles, and the first Australian to win them both individually. Popular with the media, he appeared on numerous magazine covers all around the world. After a highly successful career which solidified him as one of Australia's best bodybuilders in history, he retired in 1994.
